I’ve had this unforgettable fragrance hidden away in the archives of my brain for many years now. It is a scent for me that marked the beginning of what would be one of the biggest transitions in my life over 30 years ago. I remember it being warm, spicy and wonderfully inviting. It had notes of citrus and a subtle, grounding energy. Over the years I knew I had to try to recreate it. Having worked with essential oils for some time now, I️ believed that if I️ went to the drawing board I️ could quite possibly replicate it. As an aromatherapist, memory plays a huge part in our lab work. And with my understanding that most if not all fragrance oils are derived from a natural element, after years of dreaming about it, I️ was eager to finally put my olfactory system to the test.

One never forgets the meaning of a well-loved scent and its powerful effect on you. Our very emotions are impacted greatly by the smells we truly love. To my excitement I️ was able to get close and recreate what I remember to be a very stimulating, yet balanced energy. One of the essential oils I used turned out to be Black pepper (Piper nigrum), an oil I had never worked with before. Who doesn’t love the spicy smell of freshly ground Black pepper that tickles your nose and makes you sneeze? Fortunately for our noses though, the essential oil lacks this effect.

After some fine tuning, I️ am thrilled with the result and truly amazed at the human ability to store such a fleeting aromatic moment. A mere whiff was all I needed to have it programmed in my brain forever. Now the naming of an essential oil blend is always a special moment. I️ had to take in part not only the moment 30 years ago where it was imprinted on a tablet in my brain, but where I️ am today. Remarkably, the only name that would have been fitting then, is the only name that is fitting now. Thrive.

My heart is in this blend. It holds all the right aromatic notes that makes me feel strong and determined, and yet it reminds me of just how far I’ve come. It smells like freedom to me and at the same time humbles me deeply. Life throws you curve balls. Circumstances you can’t see coming even if you tried with all your might. There are life lessons that are only yours to learn. But the beauty in healing and overcoming, is that you can share them. My gift to the world is through scent. I’m excited to introduce it as a new proprietary blend to the Soul Escentials family.

Thrive represents two dark stages in my life; as a young, courageous girl, coming out of the place I️ was in then, and as the vibrant, courageous woman I am today, coming out of the place I was just in now.

The first product that Rachel ever recommended, “Replenish,” just so happens to be the one we use most frequently and has had a profound effect on the wellbeing of our youngest child. Nathan has Down syndrome and one of the traits that comes along with his condition is narrow sinus and nasal passages. One top of that he also had Tracheomalacia and Bronchomalacia (collapsing of the trachea and bronchi) when he was a baby. As you can imagine it was crucial that we did everything we could possibly do to keep it easy for him to breathe, especially when he became congested. Using Replenish (we use the massage oil on his chest, and back and also use the essential oil in the humidifier) helped keep his mucus thinner and helps open up his airways breathe easier and sleep more soundly. Thankfully he has grown out of his malacia but we still use Replenish on a regular basis to help him and the rest of our family breathe easier when we come down with colds.
